Course Information
Effective risk management is at the heart of safe driving instruction and plays a key role in achieving high scores during both the Part 3 test for PDIs and the Standards Check for ADIs. The DVSA requires instructors to demonstrate strong risk management skills, with a minimum score of 7 in this area to pass. This course provides a detailed understanding of how to identify, share, and manage risk during lessons, equipping you with the skills to meet and exceed examiner expectations.
What the Course Covers

- Understanding responsibility for risk between instructor and pupil.
- Giving timely and clear instructions to maintain safety.
- Recognising when verbal or physical intervention is appropriate and proportionate.
- Managing safety critical situations and providing immediate feedback.
- Encouraging a coaching approach to feedback that supports pupil learning.
- Common challenges instructors face in risk management and practical ways to overcome them.
Interactive Learning
This course is discussion led and highly practical. You’ll have the opportunity to explore real life examples, ask questions, and bring your own cases to the session. By sharing experiences and scenarios, you’ll develop strategies to handle a wide range of situations confidently and safely.
Who Should Attend?
Ideal for both PDIs preparing for their Part 3 test and ADIs working towards or revising for their Standards Check. It is also valuable for qualified instructors who want to strengthen their day to day teaching practice and ensure their pupils are learning in a safe, controlled environment.
Your Instructor
The session is delivered by a Grade A Approved Driving Instructor with extensive experience in coaching learners, trainee instructors, and post-test clients, including fleet drivers. Their practical insight will help you confidently apply risk management principles in every lesson.

Amending or cancelling your course
You can easily amend or cancel your course once it has been booked. Please call us on 0330 111 7230 or email info@greenpenny.co.uk to do this. Please ensure you give enough notice to amend or cancel – you must give at least 4 clear working days notice so that you don’t lose your fee (working days = Monday to Friday, not including bank holidays. 4 clear working days, does not include the day you inform us you would like to cancel or the date of the course).
If you have already attended the full course, or part of the course, then no cancellation or change of date is possible and no refund will be due. If you fail to attend a course or test on the date you have booked, or you arrive late, no refund or date change will be available.
